Connor Bedard has received a warning about extending his contract with the Blackhawks. Connor Bedard will become eligible to ink a long-term extension with the Chicago Blackhawks on July 1, but NHL insider Craig Button believes he needs to wait. Discussing the matter on the "Donnie Dhali" show, Button advised Bedard to wait until his rookie contract expires in 2026. That summer would be his initial opportunity to hit the market as a restricted free agent. "The Chicago Blackhawks are awful,' Button said. 'If I was Bedard's agent, I wouldn't sign him to any extension. There's no benefit to signing early. He'll make the same money if he waits until next July. Plus, waiting opens him up to potential offer sheets." Bedard leads the Blackhawks with 56 points in 71 games and was the Calder Trophy winner last season as the NHL Rookie of the Year after scoring 61 points in 68 games. Chicago, however, is having another dismal season, last in the Central Division at 21-41-9 and already officially eliminated from playoff contention. Blackhawks need to prove to Bedard they're serious about winning Button insisted they have yet to prove they can succeed at constructing around the 2023 No. 1 overall pick and therefore it makes sense that Bedard hold back on any long-term decision. "Bedard needs evidence from the Chicago Blackhawks that a long-term deal is worth it," Button said. "Right now, there is nothing in Chicago that makes you think staying is beneficial." Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman echoed that sentiment on Sirius XM NHL Radio, adding that Bedard might consider waiting for the next collective bargaining agreement to be negotiated. "Why would anyone sign before that? Just to see maybe if anything changes?" Friedman said. "Now, if you get an idea that the rules aren't going to change, then you don't do it. But I did have someone say to me (that) for a star, for one of the top players — and Bedard is the franchise player in Chicago — you might wait to see if any rules change." A new CBA could alter offer sheet dynamics and salary structures, and place the Blackhawks in a difficult spot if other teams make offers to their emerging star.
Daniil Medvedev has shared his thoughts on top players like Iga Swiatek using supplements during intense matches. The Russian star believes this is completely normal. He explained that the high intensity of tennis causes fatigue, leading players to take vitamins to stay strong. One of the most memorable moments in tennis came during the 2023 Cincinnati Final. Novak Djokovic shouted “creatinaaaa” while facing Carlos Alcaraz in a long 3-hour-49-minute match. This moment went viral. Later, Djokovic spoke about his frustration with existing supplements and launched his own brand, SILA, which he claims is the most advanced in the world. "It’s not a big deal. Look, you get sick playing tennis. In normal life, you take a paracetamol, it’s fine. In tennis, you get sick, you have a match the next day, you try to take vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin B, paracetamol, anything that helps. And there you have it, you have 10 just because you’re sick. So I wouldn’t be surprised to see 30, so I’m not surprised to see 14. In fact, I would be surprised if I saw someone at the top of the rankings putting down four supplements [on their declaration form]. I would be really shocked," Daniil Medvedev said on National News. Recently, tennis has faced more scrutiny over supplements and banned substances. In 2024, two major doping scandals shook the sport. Jannik Sinner and Swiatek were both suspended after testing positive due to contamination. Swiatek’s issue came from a tainted sleeping pill, leading to a one-month ban. Sinner’s case was more controversial. He tested positive for clostebol, allegedly from his physiotherapist, and received a three-month suspension starting Feb. 15. Iga Swiatek prevails against Elina Svitolina in Miami World No. 2 Iga Swiatek took another step toward her first title of the year with a tough 7-6(5), 6-3 win over Elina Svitolina. The Polish star defeated the No. 22 seed from Ukraine in the Round of 16 at the Miami Open. The match lasted 2 hours and 5 minutes and ended just after midnight on Tuesday. Swiatek is still in the race for her second Miami Open title. She won this tournament in 2022, completing the Sunshine Double by winning both Indian Wells and Miami. Only three other women — Steffi Graf, Kim Clijsters and Victoria Azarenka — have achieved this feat. Although Swiatek has not won a title in 2025, she leads the tour in main-draw match wins. Her victory over Svitolina was her 21st of the season. This puts her ahead of Mirra Andreeva and Aryna Sabalenka, who each have 20 wins. Swiatek has a strong record against Ukrainian players, with 13 wins and just one loss. Her only defeat came against Svitolina at Wimbledon in 2023. In the quarterfinals, she will face 19-year-old wild card Alexandra Eala from the Philippines. Daniil Medvedev’s recent struggles explained Former World No.1 Daniil Medvedev has been struggling not just in 2025 but also for most of the 2024 season. The Russian has not won an ATP title in over 12 months, with his last trophy coming at the 2023 China Open. Medvedev has built a reputation as a hard-court specialist throughout his career. Most of his titles have come on hard courts, including his U.S. Open victory in 2021 and the ATP Finals win in 2020. However, his title drought on hard courts speaks volumes about his struggles. In 2024, Medvedev reached the finals of two major events, the Australian Open and Indian Wells. However, he lost both matches to Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, respectively. Medvedev has often been second best to these two rising stars over the past two seasons. His only victory against either of them came against Sinner in the 2024 Wimbledon quarterfinals.
On Wednesday night, the Los Angeles Lakers will play the Indiana Pacers. They have lost each of their last three games by a combined 72 points. Before Wednesday's showdown in Indiana, Lakers legend (and Basketball Hall of Famer) Magic Johnson made a bold post to X. Johnson wrote: "All I want to see from the Lakers tonight is DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE DEFENSE!" Many people commented on Johnson's post. @earl_dimayuga: "You traded Zubac which could have been a fixture at center, so part of the struggles in the rotation is your fault, honestly speaking" @TheLakersAve: "ALL I WANT TO SEE FROM THE LAKERS TONIGHT IS DEFENSE. ALL I WANT TO SEE FROM THE LAKERS TONIGHT IS DEFENSE. ALL I WANT TO SEE FROM THE LAKERS TONIGHT IS DEFENSE. ALL I WANT TO SEE FROM THE LAKERS TONIGHT IS DEFENSE. ALL I WANT TO SEE FROM THE LAKERS TONIGHT IS DEFENSE." @Newrunnerrr: "Hali and them boys bout to try and run us out the building . We might not win til we see the bulls again. Only game I see us getting up for in the next 5 games" @NikoJHova: "Now that I think about it. You and Luka are very similar. Generational scoring and passing but subpar defense." The Lakers come into the night as the fifth seed in the Western Conference with a 43-28 record in 71 games. They are 15-19 in 34 games on the road. Following the Pacers, the Lakers will visit the Chicago Bulls on Thursday night.
Two months ago, the Minnesota Vikings made it clear what they wanted their future to look like. They gave head coach Kevin O'Connell a well-deserved contract extension to keep him around for a long time. The deal is likely through the 2029 season and, after starting his head coaching career 34-17, it was well deserved. We all knew that O'Connell deserved his contract extension. However, there was still one more that needed to occur. When would general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah get his extension? Kwesi Adofo-Mensah comments on potential contract extension It's rather odd right now that Adofo-Mensah doesn't have a contract extension right now. He just completed a brilliant free agency in fortifying the roster to a great point and he deserves to get one. "You know, I think when you sit down in a conversation with me and interview me, and you get to know me, the person I am, integrity wise, I don't think you'd ever question whether I do the right thing by the organization for the future, and I think they continue to trust that. Again, if you spend time with me every day I got I'm not perfect. I have my faults, but, you know, willingness to do the right thing by the organization is not one of them. And so I don't think they worry about that. I know I don't because, again, I plan to be, you know, the person that's here when we ultimately accomplish our goals. And that's what I'm working towards. "It's funny, with a player, somebody asked me, a player agent asked me that. These things don't come in straight lines. They kind of come with dribbs and drives, and then big discoveries, and then you're here, and then it's like building a house. A lot of the time takes, you know, the build a lot, you know, takes 90% of time to go out of it in the last 10% you know how that goes. So I can't tell you exactly where that is. I wish I could give you a simple, clean answer. I know that there's positive dialog happening with my representatives and theirs, and then meet with them as well. Again, it's probably on me that it's not going quicker, because, again, I wake up every morning focus on the things that I need to focus on to get this team to where they want to go, that mindset that it's my job to be the circuit leader for them, that doesn't change just because a contract maybe has a year left on it." It's a very well-articulated answer from Adofo-Mensah, which has become his specialty over the years. At his season-ending press conference, he articulated some of the same points. "So, you know, my conversations with them, with anybody else, I think it was at a Minnesota football game earlier this year, and somebody said, good luck with the contract. And it like kind of opened me up, because that's just not how I live my life. I don't think I'm entitled to anything. If I signed that contract tomorrow, I'd be running like I was scared, you know, just trying to always earn it. If somebody's chasing you, somebody's trying to be better than you, you gotta, you gotta. So I don't really spend a ton of time of that thinking about that. I'm unbelievably grateful to be the general manager of the Vikings, and I want to continue to be, so I'm gonna leave this office to the Vikings and work hard to try and improve this team, and whatever comes in the future will come. But that's where I'm at right now." The entire time, Adofo-Mensah has maintained the same calm demeanor about his extension. Considering how calculated he is about the entire situation, it's hard to blame him. Adofo-Mensah is incredibly thoughtful when it comes to everything he does, so this is no different. Will Adofo-Mensah end up getting an extension? Only time will tell on that.
