WNBA analyst shuts down exaggerated Paige Bueckers narrative

Earlier this month, Paige Bueckers was selected No. 1 overall by the Dallas Wings in the 2025 WNBA Draft. While the fan base was initially ecstatic over this pick, speculation began to arise. As a far-fetched narrative continued to form, one analyst tried to set the record straight.

Since being drafted, it appeared Bueckers had not yet officially arrived in Dallas to start her tenure with the Wings. This has led to discourse that she is unhappy with her situation and dragging her feet to get there.

During Monday's episode of the "Elle Duncan Show," ESPN's Elle Duncan shared her thoughts on the latest narrative surrounding Bueckers. She wants fans to slow down, explaining how drastically Bueckers' life has changed over the last few weeks.

"People are doing their sleuthing, they're trying to put pieces together," Duncan said. "Y'all chill, she just won the national championship and then a week later got drafted. And now she's got to pick up and move her whole entire life to Dallas. While yes, she probably had some preconceived notions she was going there, it is still quite a whirlwind."

There are countless reasons as to why Bueckers likely hadn't popped up in Dallas yet. The main one being that nothing is occurring right now. Given that the draft was only two weeks after the national championship, she could be soaking in some much-needed downtime before her rookie campaign.

Another notable factor is just how drastic a change this is for Bueckers. Having spent the last five years at UConn, she had deep roots there. As Duncan mentioned, she has to get all her affairs in order before arriving.

Since it became clear that Dallas was likely going to win the lottery, Bueckers has shown no signs of unhappiness. As a fierce and spirited competitor, the highly touted prospect would showcase her talents no matter where she landed in the WNBA.

While they had the second-worst record in the league last year, Bueckers shouldn't be discouraged heading into her rookie campaign. Dallas' roster has productive talent that should only improve with her arrival. Texas is also one of the biggest sports markets in the country, which should yield dividends for her growing brand off the court.

Wings fans don't have to wait much longer for Bueckers' arrival, as she and the rest of the Wings' incoming rookie class will hold their introductory press conference on Wednesday. After that, training camp is set to get underway on April 27.
