The WNBA offseason continues to spin. On Tuesday, a report came out that the Connecticut Sun has denied the trade request for Marina Mabrey, the former teammate of Chicago Sky star Angel Reese.
Mabrey, who was acquired from the Sky in July 2024, played less than one full season with Connecticut before expressing her desire to be traded in February.
However, the Sun currently has no plans of moving her, and President Jennifer Rizzotti spoke about Mabrey in the report of the denied request.
"We knew at the time that she had already forced her way out of two teams, so it was a bit risky for us to trade for her, but we felt like it was worth it,” Rizzotti said.
It's quite the stance from the Sun, and it could cause some unnecessary drama around the organization.
Dallas Wins star Arike Ogunbowale, who played together with Mabrey at Notre Dame and with the Wings, issued a hilarious response on social media.
"me all season if my trade request got denied," Ogunbowale wrote with the famous GIF of the missed shots.

One fan replied asking if that would be professional, and Ogunbowale insisted she was joking.
"of course not. twitter isn’t a real place, u supposed to laugh & keep scrolling," Ogunbowale wrote.
Nonetheless, the Sun keeping Mabrey despite her insistence of wanting to be traded could be a difficult pill for both sides to swallow. It is only February, and the WNBA regular season doesn't begin until May, so there is time for both sides to figure things out.
