TNA introduces International title, tournament to crown first champion

TNA is introducing a new title, rebranding the Digital Media Championship as the International Championship.

Santino Marella announced on Thursday’s Impact that he was stripping Steph De Lander of the Digital Media title that she claimed to have inherited from former champ PCO in their storyline divorce. He then announced the title will be rebranded, with a tournament crowning the inaugural International Champion.

Three three-way matches will comprise the first round, with one three-way set for next Thursday’s Impact, then two for the April 17 TNA Unbreakable TNA Plus special.

The winners of the three-ways will meet later in the evening at Unbreakable in another triple threat to decide the first-ever TNA International Champion.

The three-way matches are:

• Semifinals: AJ Francis vs. Mance Warner vs. Sami Callihan (April 10 TNA Impact)
• Semifinals: Zachary Wentz vs. JDC vs. Eric Young (April 17 TNA Unbreakable)
• Semifinals: Eddie Edwards vs. Ace Austin vs. Steve Maclin (April 17 TNA Unbreakable)
• Tournament finals: TBD vs. TBD vs. TBD (April 17 TNA Unbreakable)
