Being a top star in AEW isn't easy. There is a constant wave of scrutiny from the WWE fan base, along with former wrestlers consistently taking shots at the company. Yet, Will Ospreay is somehow transcending all of the negativity.
The English-born high-flyer is establishing himself as one of the best wrestlers on the planet. His storyline work is rapidly improving, and his in-ring production is second-to-none.
It makes sense, then, that WWE Hall of Famer and hardcore legend Mick Foley has recently provided some glowing feedback for Ospreay.
"I’m laughing because my daughter was on the Jericho cruise and she said Will is quite the character, which I didn’t know," Foley said during a recent interview with Casino Beats. "But he’s phenomenal. I was so impressed since I saw him and Ricochet just doing some amazing stuff. So yeah, I mean, his future is pretty much limitless at this point.”
Ospreay is the future of AEW. His production since arriving from New Japan Pro Wrestling has ensured his name is among the first on every card. He's becoming one of the biggest draws for the company, and his current feud with Kyle Fletcher is one of the hottest storylines in the company.
Of course, Ospreay still has more to learn. He's still working on his promo work, and needs to know when to rein in his risky style of wrestling. However, earning praise from a legend such as Foley isn't easy to do. If he's making legends sit up and take notice, then he's clearly on the right track.
If Ospreay can overcome Fletcher at AEW's Revolution, his ascension will likely continue to pick up speed. If he loses, it will be interesting to see what direction the creative team takes. Either way, Ospreay is clearly a core part of AEW's future, and arguably the most important free-agent signing of the young company's history.
