Night 1 of Wrestlemania 41 kicked off Saturday night with the underdog “Main Event” Jey Uso winning the World Heavyweight Championship. The “Lone Wolf” Jacob Fatu took on LA Knight for the United States Championship in an instant classic. Also, Naomi and Jade Cargill finished a rivalry that started back in November when Naomi pushed Cargill off a loading dock onto a windshield. Let’s dive into the action from Wrestlemania 41 in a deeper context.
Jey Uso would prove the doubters wrong on Night 1 of Wrestlemania 41. The “Ring General” Gunther threw everything at Uso to try and pick up the victory but Uso would not give up. Uso would take pages out of Gunther’s playbook hitting him with a German suplex and a powerbomb. Towards the climax of the match, Gunther would use his viscous chops and you see Uso laughing at each one he dished out.
The highlight of the match would be when Uso would use Gunther’s rear-naked choke to make the “Ring General” tap out to become a first-time World Heavyweight Champion. The Yeet Mania has begun and who would have thought that night he told the Bloodline duces Uces, he would win the Heavyweight title at Wrestlemania 41? He did. That’s why Jey Uso has answered the call of destiny and his reign starts now.
This match was a rivalry that has been boiling since Naomi threw Jade Cargill off a loading dock into a windshield. Then, Naomi tried to blame Liv Morgan that she was the one that did it. That was to Elimination Chamber when Cargill would come out and go to attack Naomi in front of her tag-team partner Bianca Belair. The following Friday Night Smackdown, Naomi would tell Belair she did attack Cargill. The match would see Cargill debut a electric chair powerbomb to get the win at Wrestlemania 41.
The main event of Wrestlemania 41 Night 1 lived up to that name and more. The double double cross of all-time. The match started with Rollins trying to get his former Shield parner to team up on Punk but Reigns wanted no part of it. The match hit the 20-minute mark when the climax would take place when Rollins would yet again try to get Reigns to double team Punk. Reigns would lead Rollins into thinking they would reunite as if they were back in their Shield days.
Rollins would pick up Punk for a tandem powerbomb only for Reigns to punch Rollins in the face then deliver solo powerbombs to both men through the announcer tables. Reigns would look to be in control rolling Rollins back in the ring for a shot at a spear for a near fall. Frustration would set in for Reigns as he rolled Punk back in the ring to start a submission gauntlet.
Reigns would lock in the guillotine choke but Punk would force Reigns into a pin breaking the hold as he did Punk got Reigns in the Anaconda Vice, Rollins then came in and locked in the Sharpshooter a call back to Wrestlemania 13 match between Stone Cold Steve Austin and Bret Hart.
Punk would almost steal a win after a stomp on Reigns and a GTS on Rollins but “The Visionary” kicked out at two. The camera would shift to Heyman, who would grab a steel chair and he was torn on who to toss it to before ultimately choosing Punk. Punk began chasing Reigns with a chair above his head, and before he got to him, Heyman would give Punk a low blow. Heyman then got the chair only to hand it to Reigns.
He would unload on Punk then turn his attention to Rollins, but before he can exact revenge from a chair shot all those years ago, Heyman does the unthinkable and low blows Reigns. The double double cross paid off with Rollins hitting Reigns once again in the back to hit a stomp for the win and new alliance with Paul Heyman.
Night 1 of Wrestlemania 41 had many twist and turns that left your head spinning. I think the biggest moment was Heyman turning on both Reigns and Punk in the same match. I guess Heyman was very grateful that Rollins did not stomp him a few weeks ago on Monday Night RAW. The night overall was very entertaining and Wrestlemania 41 Night 2 will even top this.
