Damyean Dotson most recently played in the NBA during the 2021-22 season when he appeared in two regular-season games for the New York Knicks. Last year, he played 28 games for Gaziantep Basketbol and averaged 14.9 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest while shooting 45.8% from the field and 42.6% from the three-point range.
After their initial 10-day hardship contracts expired overnight, Damyean Dotson and Matt Mooney have each signed a second 10-day deal with the Knicks.
Dotson is no stranger to the Knicks, having appeared in 165 games for the team from 2017-20 after being selected 44th overall in the 2017 draft.
Dotson, 27, played 46 games for the Cavaliers last season, averaging 6.7 points and 2.0 assists per night.
Last season was not one where Damyean Dotson was able to make much of an impact. Before it, Dotson and the Cleveland Cavaliers agreed to terms on a two-year, $4 million deal, with the second year set to be non-guaranteed.
The Cavaliers have signed Denzel Valentine to a two-year deal, as Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com reports. The second year of Valentine’s agreement is non-guaranteed.
The news that Cleveland is bringing in Valentine coincides with the Cavaliers deciding to waive Damyean Dotson. He’ll compete for minutes at the shooting guard and small forward spots.
The Cavaliers needed guards, and Dotson certainly was one. Remember the first month of the season? In retrospect, it feels like multiple alternate dimensions converged on the Cleveland Cavaliers.
By building up their base, the Knicks could be poised to be a destination in fairly short order, just not this offseason.
