Jaron Ennis stopped Eimantas Stanionis to unify the welterweight division, as boxing insiders gave their view.

Ennis made Stanionis quit after the end of the sixth round to become the WBA, IBF and Ring Magazine champion. The win extended his undefeated record to 34-0, with 30 KOs to his name. It was also the first defeat of Stanionis’ career, as Ennis secured a statement win. He will now aim for the biggest fights, with WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios a possibility. Alternatively, Ennis could also pursue a fight with the WBO Welterweight Champion Brian Norman Jr. But in order to get those fights, Ennis may need to leave Matchroom Boxing.

The boxing statistics showed how dominant Ennis. He landed 81 of his 246 total punches, which amounted to 33%. In contrast, Stanionis only landed 58 out of 269, which was 21.6%. Ennis had a less successful jab, with 16 from 226 landing: 7.1%. Meanwhile, Stanionis connected with 29 of 84 (34.5%). However, Ennis succeeded in the power punches department. He connected with 65 from 198 punches, which was 32.8%. Meanwhile, Stanionis only connected with 29 out of 101 (28.7%). Boxing insiders gave their view on the fight, with many touting Ennis as the next big thing.

Reaction

“I want to go back and watch it. You know I feel like I was, you know, just getting in my groove. I was starting to get loose, having fun and my dad told me just to keep pressing him. You are going to stop him. And you what’s crazy was I had a dream that I was going to stop him, just like this, in the seventh round.

“But you know things happen man. It came true. The biggest part was just me having fun, being myself and having a live body in front of me. When I got a live body in front of me, you see what happened. I put on a show, I had my fun. [And] I showed you speed, power and defense. I showed you a little bit of my inside game. I showed you everything,” Ennis said
