Not even a firework can match Katy Perry for elevation now. The famed pop musician was one of a sextet of women that went to the technical edge of space on a Blue Origin flight Monday.
Blue Origin is owned by Amazon bigwig Jeff Bezos, who has "sending people to the edge of space" money. In addition to Perry, Gayle King was on the flight. Yes, that means Oprah was there at the event.
No Neil Armstrong (or Sally Ride, to go distaff with the reference) are these women, as flights of this ilk just cross the threshold of what qualifies as space. This, of course, yielded plenty of trash talking on social media, which you can find amid a lot of bananas conspiracy theories, because crazy people love social media, and algorithms love crazy people.
To reach the threshold of space is still a rare occurrence most people don't get to experience, and it's probably pretty cool, and it's entertaining in its way to hear that Perry and King were on a rocket. So, all in all, that trash talking is a total snooze.
By the way, apparently King has a fear of flying, so going to space was a pretty big "jumping in with both feet" moment. Perry also said she plans to write a song about the experience. Maybe a parody of "Blue Monday" called "Blue Origin?" Kary Perry is "Weird Al" Yankovic, right?
