Pyrotechnics from Disturbed concert damages Chicago Bulls championship banners

During the 1990s, Michael Jordan led the Chicago Bulls to six titles (and found the time to give an almost-passable performance as himself in "Space Jam"). While the Bulls have not been title contenders since Jordan's second retirement, those six banners have hung in the rafters for Chicago fans to gaze upon for decades.

Then, Disturbed showed up at the United Center.

Disturbed headlined a show at the United Center, home of the Bulls and Blackhawks, on March 8. They were supported by Three Days Grace and Sevendust and oh weird our ears have spontaneously started bleeding. As the band and their fans were getting down with the sickness, the pyro from Disturbed's set proved a bit overzealous. The heat from the pyrotechnics evidently warped the Bulls' six title banners.

A spokesperson for the arena released this statement:

United Center is currently working with the Bulls to explore options to repair these banners. While the banners will not be in place for the remainder of this season, we do anticipate them being back in place next season.

The banners will either be fine, or will be replaced, so it'll all shake out in the end. It's not like Disturbed melted Jordan's championship rings or what have you. Plus, the dudes from Disturbed are probably a little bummed this happened as is. They are Chicagoans themselves and were celebrating their 25th anniversary of "The Sickness" tour with a show in their hometown. Be careful with that pyro the rest of the way, Disturbed! The band plays in Washington D.C. on St. Patrick's Day and hopefully won't damage any of the banners Jordan won with the Wizards. Oh, wait...
