The Arizona Diamondbacks had an incredible moment in Sunday’s matchup against the Chicago Cubs, as pitcher Ryne Nelson (you heard that right), had a massive base hit in the 8th inning that helped deliver a 10-6 win over the Cubs in downtown Phoenix.
Head Coach Torey Lovullo ran out of position players to use, and after giving up the designated hitter spot, turned to Ryne Nelson to be the hero. At the time, the Diamondbacks came alive and bounced back from being down 6-2 and took the lead going up 7-6. He had one chance to make this moment a legendary one:

Funny enough this is reminiscent of early in the 2024 season, when Scott McGough had to come to the plate at home against the New York Yankees after Geraldo Perdomo unfortunately got injured. He ended up striking out, losing the game in the bottom of the 11th inning. Ryne Nelson avenged that moment, and has added his name to a list of not just pitchers who rake, but also, when it matters heavily for the Snakes. Archie Bradley might be writing his name in the book right now.
The Diamondbacks meet the New York Yankees next on Tuesday, April 1st for their first road trip of the season.
