The Los Angeles Dodgers are without a doubt one of the most talented rosters put together in recent memory, with a pitching staff down the line of aces or near-aces.
One pitcher who has been quietly rehabbing for Los Angeles is Tony Gonsolin, who in 2022 was a workhorse for the Dodgers, going 16-1 with a 2.14 ERA and 119 strikeouts. Gonsolin signed a two-year, $6.65 million contract before the 2023 season to avoid arbitration, but dealt with arm inflammation all year that caused a dip in his stats and an eventual Tommy John surgery in August 2023.
Following an 8-0 start to the 2025 season, becoming the first defending champions to do so, the Dodgers on Thursday got good news on Gonsolin.
On Thursday, Gonsolin and fellow pitcher Evan Phillips (rotator cuff strain) will begin a rehab assignment at Triple-A Oklahoma City, which is welcome news on both ends. Gonsolin's under-productive 2023 was due to his elbow injury, and him returning to his 2022 form would be bad news for the rest of the league. Gonsolin is scheduled to make a two-inning appearance.
Meanwhile, Phillips is set to provide support in the bullpen for Oklahoma City tonight. His 3.62 ERA in 2024 was his highest since 2020, and he's been dealing with arm related issues for several months, being left off of the World Series roster due to an arm injury.
The two rehab assignments of Gonsolin and Phillips are sure to provide a welcome insight into what Dodgers fans can expect out of the two in 2025, as well as crucially giving a glimpse into a possible return date.
