As the 2025 Major League Baseball season approaches, the Los Angeles Dodgers are working to finalize their starting rotation.
The top four spots are essentially locked up with Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Roki Sasaki.
However, the last spot is an interesting storyline to watch out for as the team prepares for the regular season.
It won't matter in the Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs, as it's already been announced that it will be Yamamoto and Sasaki getting starts in their home country.
But that No. 5 spot beyond that could be something to watch for.
In a recent projected lineups and rotations article by MLB.com, they predicted that 2022 All-Star Tony Gonsolin will be the Dodgers' fifth starter.
Gonsolin missed all of 2024 with an injury and last pitched to a 4.98 ERA in 2023 over 20 starts.
It seems to be a close race with Dustin May, Landon Knack, and Clayton Kershaw.
It's also important to note that the last rotation spot is a placeholder role until May, when Shohei Ohtani is expected to slot back in as a starter.
May also missed all of 2024 due to injury, and Knack came on strong at the end of last season and even saw some meaningful innings in the postseason.
Both May and Gonsolin will continue to get plenty of chances this spring, and both are hungry for the opportunity to toe the rubber again as an essential piece of the Dodgers.
