The New York Mets completed a sweep of the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday afternoon, winning the series finale 4-3. Winning eight of their last 10 games, the Mets sit atop the NL East standings with an 18-7 record.
New York has gotten off to this hot start despite injuries to several key players. This includes both the pitching staff and starting lineup, as Sean Manaea, Frankie Montas, Jeff McNeil and Francisco Alvarez are among the players yet to make their 2025 season debut.
The injury concerns grew for New York on Wednesday, as two-time All-Star closer Edwin Diaz exited Wednesday's game with the trainer.
Mets manager Carlos Mendoza revealed after the game that Diaz was experiencing left hip cramping. Speaking with reporters, Diaz revealed the encouraging news that he passed all the strength tests.
"Yeah, we did all the tests, strength tests, and everything," Diaz said. "Everything was fine, just in the fastball I threw to [J.T.] Realmuto, I felt like my hip got locked up. I started walking to loosen it up, and when I stepped on the mound, I couldn't lift my leg a little bit to come set."

Despite the positive news of Diaz checking out well in his postgame tests, the Mets are still faced with a decision on his status for their upcoming series against the Washington Nationals. Anthony DiComo of MLB.com revealed who they may turn to if their star closer is forced to miss time.
"If Díaz misses any time, setup men Ryne Stanek and A.J. Minter would be the most likely candidates to step in for saves," he wrote.
