The New York Mets are on a roll to begin the season. They currently stand at an MLB-best 18-8 and hold a commanding 4.5 game lead in the National League East over the Atlanta Braves.

The strength of their team has been the pitching staff. New York currently leads the entire Big Leagues with a cumulative 2.37 ERA. They have ridden their hot start to a 12-1 start at Citi Field, becoming the first Mets team to do so in their history.

While things seem to be going great on the major league level, the Mets may also have a star looming in the lower levels of the minor leagues.

On Saturday, Single-A pitcher Raimon Gomez threw the fastest minor league pitch in the last five seasons. MiLB Pipeline took to their X account to point out the prospect's historic achievement.

“104.5 mph strikeout? Raimon Gomez throws the fastest Statcast-confirmed strikeout pitch in the Minors in the past five seasons for the Single-A @stluciemets," MLB Pipeline wrote.

The 23-year-old Gomez has spent four seasons down in the Mets' system. So far in his professional career, the Barcelona native has accumulated 71.2 innings pitched and has posted a decent 3.52 ERA. Additionally, he has earned a 10.9 K/9 rate as his swing and miss stuff is elite.

Gomez utilizes his 70-grade fastball to avoid opposing bats. His 104 MPH heat already puts him in elite company with Major League arms, let alone at the lower level of the minors.

While Gomez likely won't see big-league action anytime soon, he could be an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on in Queens for years down the road.
