The San Diego Padres have started the 2025 season off red hot, compiling an impressive 10-3 record, sit in first place of the NL West and have a run differential of plus 14.
On Friday, they are set to start a three-game series against the struggling 3-9 Colorado Rockies at Petco Park, which also happens to be their first divisional matchup of the year.
Unfortunately, though, they're a team that has quickly been hit with some serious injuries and on Friday announced s second baseman and two-time All-Star, Jake Cronenworth, will be hitting the 10-day Injured List with a non-displaced right rib fracture.
We have placed INF Jake Cronenworth on the 10-day IL with a non-displaced right rib fracture (retro to 4/9), selected the contract of INF/OF Tyler Wade and transferred RHP Matt Waldron to the 60-day IL.

Cronenworth being out could prove to be a big loss for the Padres, as he's been solid to start the season, appearing in 12 games, accumulating 35 at-bats, seven runs scored, nine hits, two home runs, five RBI and an OPS of .895.
The move doesn't come as a major surprise, though, as he was also held out of San Diego's game on Wednesday against the Athletics with a rib injury.
He's also the second player for the Padres to hit the 10-day IL in the last week, as All-Star outfielder Jackson Merrill was added on Tuesday with a hamstring injury.
To try and replace Cronenworth, the team has selected the contract of utility man Tyler Wade from their Triple-A squad, who last year appeared in 90 games for the Padres and sported a .524 OPS.
