San Diego Padres star Luis Arráez thankfully avoided a significant injury during a frightening collision on Sunday night.

Unfortunately for the Padres, they’ll nonetheless be without Arráez for at least a week. San Diego placed the three-time batting champion on the 7-day injured list Monday afternoon.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Arráez, 28, is in concussion protocol.

Arráez collided with Houston Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubón in the first inning of the Padres’ 3-2 victory. Replays showed the All-Star designated hitter’s face colliding with Dubón’s arm or elbow.

Both players went to the ground, with Arráez remaining down until a stretcher took him off the field. Play resumed following a 10-minute delay as Arráez immediately went to Houston Methodist Hospital for testing.

“Thankfully, there is nothing to worry about,” Arráez wrote on Instagram following the incident. “I’m currently resting and plan to rejoin the team this Monday.”

Arráez hit .287 with three home runs over his first 96 plate appearances. He has not missed a game this year.
