Donovan Mitchell took the breath away from Cleveland Cavaliers fans on Sunday night when he was taken back to the locker room with an ankle injury.
He returned to the game but was ruled out of the team’s next contest against the Chicago Bulls where they would have another chance to capture the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference.
Many people assumed that this was just precautionary, especially because head coach Kenny Atkinson quelled fears by saying he didn’t think doctors would find anything when examining Mitchell.
However, there may be cause for concern because the All-Star guard has been ruled out of Thursday’s game against the Indiana Pacers already.

Everyone else is available.
With the Cavs having clinched home court advantage throughout the playoffs, there is nothing more for them to accomplish in the regular season which could very well be the reason for holding Mitchell out on Thursday.
But after the former Utah Jazz guard hurt his ankle against the Sacramento Kings, he told Atkinson he felt no pain, so this is a little troubling.
Cleveland has done a tremendous job at keeping their team healthy all year and it would be catastrophic if the injury bug decided to bite them now.
Mitchell and his teammate Darius Garland have missed their fair share of games this season, but they’ve been able to avoid the serious injury.
We got a glimpse at what the Cavs looked like in the playoffs last season when Mitchell had a serious injury, and it wasn’t pretty.
There is no update on how long the injury will affect Mitchell, but hopefully he’s back on the court sooner rather than later.
