Even after the Chicago Bears signed defensive lineman Grady Jarrett early in free agency, the franchise might not be done bolstering the defensive line.
As the Philadelphia Eagles illustrated in the Super Bowl, a relentless front-four pass rush can have catastrophic consequences for an offense. Just ask Patrick Mahomes how daunting it is to absorb six sacks despite the defense never blitzing.
It is entirely possible, even with Jarrett and Dayo Odeyingo’s arrivals earlier this offseason that general manager Ryan Poles and the Bears could still look to tab a defensivive lineman early in the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
Chad Reuter of NFL Media put together a list of each team’s ideal fits in the upcoming NFL Draft, including listing Michigan defensive tackle Kenneth Grant in the second round.
“Grant’s bulk is needed in the middle of the defense in run situations,” Reuter writes for NFL Media. “His presence would allow Gervon Dexter and veteran addition Grady Jarrett to be fresh enough to attack the backfield on passing downs.”
At 6-foot-3 and 339 pounds, Grant is a space-eater and dominant run-stuffer who could provide quality snaps in Dennis Allen’s defense, perhaps even as an anchor along the interior.
Across three seasons in Ann Arbor, Grant posted 6.5 sacks to go with his 69.5 total tackles and three forced fumbles.
Meanwhile, while Pro Football Focus gives Grant a strong 9.4 pass rush win rate, his 87.5 run-stopping grade is among the best in class, which could make him an asset for Allen as the Bears look to contend with running backs such as Jahmyr Gibbs, Josh Jacobs, and emerging star Jordan Mason in the NFC North, alone in 2025 and beyond.

The Las Vegas Raiders come with two options ahead of April 24. Stay idle at sixth overall, or send shockwaves across the league and trade up in the NFL Draft. This is the first major April decision involving the new trio of John Spytek, Pete Carroll and Tom Brady. All as the new general manager, head coach and co-owner collaboration in Vegas. We’re swinging toward the theory the Raiders will pull off a trade. Aidan O’Connell is suggested to become a draft day trade already. We’re also believing the Raiders will get aggressive and attempt to make a splash move. Now that there’s new leadership in place. The Raiders need to pull a move that speaks to how serious they are about changing the culture. Here’s what we’re thinking in coming up with the perfect draft trade for the Raiders. Raiders hold off on trading Aidan O’Connell, but move inside top five O’Connell won’t be a day one draft trade. Not with a 7-10 overall mark as a starter. He’s likely not going to command significant attention. But instead, Carroll convinces the Raiders to get aggressive and pull this decision to galvanize the franchise: Vegas moves to No. 2 in a deal with the Cleveland Browns. The AFC North franchise trades down to six, plus gains the Raiders’ No. 37 pick and lands next year’s 2026 first rounder. The Silver and Black the grabs Travis Hunter in return as part of this deal. The Browns are in no dire need of a quarterback with Joe Flacco recently re-added and DeShaun Watson back. That rules out O’Connell becoming a part of this deal. Cleveland GM Andrew Berry instead goes after draft capital in this decision. He receives a second selection in round two, then gets assurance Cleveland receives an additional first rounder for April 2026. Vegas, meanwhile, relinquishes its second rounder to sweeten the deal. But this is still a trade capable of changing the Raiders’ fortunes. Raiders land epic, game-changing talent to bolster 2 needed areas The Raiders are entering the draft needing wide receiver help. They also have lacked a consistent play-making cornerback for awhile. Hunter bolsters both spots — as college football fans watched him dominate both positions weekly. This move also gives the Raiders Charles Woodson flashbacks. Woodson entered the league delivering his own receiving/defending prowess. The future Hall of Famer ultimately settled for cornerback. Yet the Raiders used his versatility early. Woodson emerged as one of the more dominating Raiders performers and now has a bust in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. New Raiders quarterback Geno Smith gets a much-needed playmaker to throw to. Defensive coordinator Patrick Graham even gets a game-changing CB capable of becoming the new Woodson. The Raiders, overall, spark new intrigue from the fan base by landing Hunter in this scenario. Hunter previously got plugged to the Raiders at sixth in a mock draft. But it’s unlikely Hunter will drop all the way to No. 6. The Colorado and Jackson State star isn’t expected to land no lower than fifth overall. Rhett Lewis of the NFL Network also calls for the Raiders to pull this off in his mock draft. If Spytek and Brady dial up a trade, this looks like the perfect one. Hunter gives Patrick Mahomes, Justin Herbert and Bo Nix a new CB to worry about in the AFC West. And gives defenses someone to stay up all night for in wondering how to counter Hunter. This is a perfect gamble in a city known for gambles.
The Los Angeles Lakers will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in the first round of the 2025 playoffs in a series with a lot of star power. The Lakers are led by LeBron James and Luka Doncic, while the Timberwolves have Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle and Rudy Gobert. Los Angeles has home-court advantage in the series, which is important since JJ Redick's group went 0-2 against the Timberwolves in Minnesota during the regular season. The Lakers went 2-0 at home versus Edwards and Co. After the Los Angeles Clippers beat the Golden State Warriors on Sunday, confirming that the Timberwolves would face the Lakers, Redick spoke to local reporters about the Los Angeles-Minnesota matchup. "Very difficult opponent," Redick said. "They've played as well as anyone lately. Believe they're one of four teams in the top 10 in offense and defense. So they present a lot of problems." Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks defeated the Timberwolves in the 2024 Western Conference Finals in five games. James, who has the most postseason wins in NBA history with 183, has never faced Minnesota in the playoffs during his Hall of Fame career. Redick just finished his first season as an NBA coach. The former Duke star said he and his staff will use next week to prepare the players for the Timberwolves. "We can map out what we wanna do in terms of Minnesota prep Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, potentially Saturday," Redick said. The Lakers lost to the Denver Nuggets in the first round of the 2024 playoffs. It will be interesting to see if Los Angeles can defeat Minnesota this year in the first round.

Sunday was a tough day for the Golden State Warriors. Not only did the team lose to the Los Angeles Clippers, but one of their best players got injured. Golden State lost to Los Angeles in overtime by a final score of 124-119 at home. The Warriors dropped to the seventh spot in the West, so they will have to participate in the play-in tournament. The Memphis Grizzlies (8) and Warriors (7) will play at the Chase Center. If Golden State wins, Steve Kerr's group will face the Houston Rockets in the first round of the 2025 playoffs. If the Warriors lose to the Grizzlies, they will play the winner of the Sacramento Kings (9)-Dallas Mavericks (10) play-in game to determine who will face the Oklahoma City Thunder in the first round. "We're right where we want to be," Jimmy Butler said after the Warriors lost to the Clippers, via ESPN. "We've still got an opportunity and we control our own fate. We're going to be just fine." Butler, who hasn't missed the playoffs since 2016 when he was on the Chicago Bulls, suffered a thigh injury in the Warriors-Clipppers game. He was limping heavily near the end of the game but told reporters postgame that he'd be fine. "I’ll be alright," Butler said. "Go home and play some dominoes and drink some coffee that’ll make it feel better.” Butler played 48 minutes against the Clippers. He finished with 30 points and nine rebounds. The Warriors haven't won a playoff series since 2022. It will be fascinating to see if Golden State reaches the postseason this year. If the Warriors make the playoffs, tracking how far they go will be intriguing.
