The new league is set to bring significant changes to all 32 teams that include the roster. The Las Vegas Raiders are one of those teams set to bring serious changes to their roster.
On Wednesday, Mar. 5, NFL insider Tom Pelissero reports that the Raiders have informed quarterback Garnder Minshew that he’ll be released when the new league year starts next Wednesday, Mar. 12.

At 28 years old, Minshew is becoming a journeyman quarterback. If he is released next week, he will likely play for a third team in three seasons. Provided he doesn’t go to any of the four teams he previously played for, he will play for a fifth team in his career.
Minshew signed a two-year deal with the Raiders last year at the start of free agency. The Raiders had hoped they would find their franchise quarterback during that time, and Minshew would be the bridge quarterback.
Instead, Minshew struggled as he was 2-7 as the starting quarterback for Las Vegas. He completed 203-of-306 of his passes (66.3%) for 2,013 yards, nine touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. Minshew was under .500% as a starting quarterback for the first time since his second year in the league in 2019 with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Whoever signs Minshew at this point in his career will likely do it with the sole purpose of being a backup quarterback. The Miami Dolphins are a team that have to seriously consider adding Minshew as a backup to Tua Tagovailoa.
Tagovailoa has experienced multiple injuries throughout his career, with a good portion of them being concussions. He missed the last three regular-season games in 2022 with a grade three concussion. After playing a full 2023 season and creating the top-ranked offense in the league, he suffered another grade-three concussion early last season that made him miss four games. Tagovailoa missed the final two weeks of the season with a hip sprain.
While the Dolphins must find a way to keep Tagovailoa healthy, they must also take legitimate precautions about a backup. The Dolphins struggled under Tyler Huntley and Skylar Thompson.
Minshew would be on a team with more efficient pass-catchers around him and a better offensive-minded coach in head coach Mike McDaniel. Minshew would also be a potential favorite in the locker room with him and Tagovailoa both having a calmer mentality.
A one-year deal for Minshew would suffice in Miami, but the argument could be made for a two-year deal with less money overall to stay on a team longer than one year.
