The New York Jets' offseason has been about clearing the decks, with Aaron Rodgers, Davante Adams, and C.J. Mosley highlighting the departures.
Justin Fields has signed a two-year deal and looks to be the starter for offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand as the franchise looks to reset with Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey.
With Garrett Wilson as the only genuine option in the pass game and Allen Lazard given the green light to seek a move elsewhere, Fields might be short of weapons in Year 1 in the Big Apple.
But free agency has just started, and there are plenty of options out there if the Jets want to look, and one is former Houston Texans receiver Stefon Diggs, who is coming off an ACL injury.
Diggs, who some say has some baggage, is worth it, given his talent, and NJ.com has the veteran listed as a possibility for the Jets.
"There would be risk involved given questions about Diggs’ attitude and readiness for the start of the regular season," NJ.com writes. "It also feels like he has unfinished business with the Texans. But there could be an opportunity here to get a highly-motivated still-talented weapon at a discount."
Spotrac.com has Diggs' market value at $13.7 million APY, and given he's coming off an injury and it isn't known if he will be ready to begin the season, we don't envision him getting that kind of salary if he were to sign with the Jets.
Plus, with Wilson, Diggs isn't going to be getting his 8+ targets a game, considering Breece Hall is also in the backfield and is a pass-catching option, but Diggs could be a nice alternative to Wilson and give Fields two good weapons plus Hall and Braelon Allen.
Yes, to some this is a shocking idea as Stefon would come with some baggage, and we aren't sure if Glenn wants that as he looks to turn the Jets into a respectable franchise again.
Given the lack of weapons, it is something to consider, but Glenn has to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze.
