The end of the 2024 NFL season marked the end to a familiar haircut for Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
For years and years Mahomes sported a taper-fade mohawk. His haircut was so iconic that you could recognize him in a crowd of people simply by looking at his hair.
But in recent weeks, he showed off a new cropped style with a fade on the side. While people weren't entirely sure why he eschewed the classic look, his longtime barber DeJuan Bonds recently spoke to Fox News about it.
Bonds suggested that the frustrating end to the season with the Chiefs' blowout loss in the Super Bowl might have prompted a change. "It's time for a new look, change," Bonds suggested.
"I just think with the end of the season, frustration maybe, like, 'You know what, I'm done. It's time for a new look, change,' and I think that's pretty much what prompted his sudden urge," Bonds said. "It probably was a little bit [frustration], then there was like, 'Hey you know, it's time for a new look.'"
Bonds ultimately feels that there are some times where a person seeking a haircut just says "cut it off" and the barber has to interpret it in a way that makes the client more satisfied - without getting rid of all the hair.
"A lot of times, when someone says, 'Cut it off,' they don't really know,' he said. 'They're just saying something. Me, as an experienced barber, I know that 'cut it off' really don't mean 'cut it off.''
Fans across the league have been talking about Mahomes' new haircut ever since it first became public. The reactions have been understandably mixed - as is almost everything involving the Chiefs' MVP quarterback.
"Chiefs are doomed. Mahomes isn't winning again that that haircut."
"Can’t be rocking a Mohawk with 3 kids, and pushing 30. Unless you’re the Ice Man (Chuck Liddell)."
"Hate the Chiefs but the cut looks good."
"Needed a new flow, energy was bad with the past one lmao."
Do you like Mahomes' new haircut, or was he better off with the previous one?
