While we are still awaiting official news from the Montreal Canadiens regarding Patrik Laine, an interesting development has emerged.
After four full days off due to flu-like symptoms, we were wondering whether Laine would be on the ice today in Vancouver.. and now we have our answer!
Take note, this does not necessarily mean that Laine will be in the lineup tonight against the Canucks, but it is still a significant sign regarding his current condition.
It's a good sign to see that Laine is able to skate today, and it comes as a pleasant surprise considering all the rumors that have circulated about him in the past few hours.
Check out the footage, as shared by TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie:
We will keep you updated the moment the Canadiens make an official announcement about Laine.
'Patrik Laine is skating this morning in Vancouver. No morning skate for the rest of the team.
Media availability at the hotel in about 20 minutes.'
- Eric Engels, Sportsnet
We should have official news on Laine within a few minutes.
Regardless of whether Laine plays tonight or not, Joshua Roy is expected to be in Martin St-Louis' lineup, and Alex Newhook is expected to center the second line.
As for Laine, even if he dresses, he is likely to have only a depth role at 5-on-5, as he has played just 10, 11 minutes per game in recent weeks.
More details to come.
