The New York Mets unveiled their first-ever jersey patch sponsorship on Thursday and it did not go very well. In fact, Mets owner Steve Cohen is already making some changes to the color scheme.
The Mets' sponsorship is with New York Presbyterian Hospital, which not only prompted social media memes poking fun at the team's early-season injury history, but also raised eyebrows because of its colors.
Those colors? Red and white.
The primary colors of one of the team's National League East rivals, the Philadelphia Phillies.

Prior to the Mets' home opener on Friday Cohen told the New York media, "They're Phillie colors. They should be more Met-appropriate."
ESPN reports that the Mets already made a call to the hospital and will be tweaking the patch to fit in more with the Mets' color scheme instead of the reining National League champion Phillies.
Is it a big deal? Not at all. But it is a very Mets-like outcome to have their first jersey advertisement immediately become a social media meme because of the team's bad injury luck and the fact it makes people think of a team other than the Mets.
Honestly, most Mets fans probably have a bigger issue with any advertisement on the jersey than the colors, but the entire thing has been a huge PR blunder.
In the short-term the Mets will be wearing their Phillie-color patch until a new one is put in place.
