The Dallas Mavericks have dealt with a constant stream of backlash since they traded Luka Doncic more than a month ago, and a major airline is now getting in on the fun.
Southwest Airlines announced some changes to their bag policy on Thursday that are not very popular among travelers. The Dallas-based airline has long been known for its "bags fly free" policy, which is fairly self-explanatory. While most other major airlines charge $35 and up for checked bags, Southwest allows each passenger to check two bags free of charge.
That is going to change on May 28. Southwest Airlines is ending its "bags fly free" policy and adopting a similar model to other airlines, where only rewards members and those purchasing top-tier fares will not have to pay for checked luggage.
With many loyal customers up in arms, the social media team for Southwest Airlines decided to deflect some attention onto the Mavericks.
Southwest shared a series of slides on Instagram Thursday explaining the new baggage policy. The very first slide said, "It's not like we traded Luka..."
Mavericks general manager Nico Harrison truly has gotten it from all angles. Fans have been calling for his firing in a variety of different settings for weeks now. It doesn't help that Mavs owner Patrick Dumont completely contradicted Harrison's rationale for making the Doncic deal.
Dallas fans may never get over losing Doncic. They now have to hear it from Southwest Airlines, too.
