A new era of Athletics baseball began on Monday night when the team played its first game at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento.
The team will spend three seasons at the ballpark before moving to Las Vegas for the 2028 season. In the first game in California's capital, the A's honored Hall of Famer Ricky Henderson before the game.
Henderson died on Dec. 20 at 65, just five days before his 66th birthday. The tribute from the Athletics included Henderson's daughters throwing out the ceremonial first pitch and all A's players wearing No. 24 in Monday's game against the Chicago Cubs.

As most know, Henderson is widely considered the greatest lead-off hitter of all-time, and all the players wearing No. 24 was an extremely nice gesture done by the organization.
While many fans are still upset about the teams move from Oakland to Sacramento and, eventually, to Las Vegas, this new era of A's baseball will be fun to watch, especially with the core group of players that includes Brent Rooker, Lawrence Butler, Jacob Wilson and more.

It has been a great start to the campaign for the New York Yankees, who will be seeking another trip back to the World Series this year. Coming into the season, the Yankees had some serious question marks regarding their lineup. The loss of Juan Soto in free agency was significant, considering a player of that caliber can't be replaced that easily. This winter, the Yankees focused on creating balance on their team. With the money saved by not being able to re-sign their star slugger, they brought in Max Fried, Devin Williams, Cody Bellinger and Paul Goldschmidt. All of these signings and trades filled needs. However, they shockingly left third base as a major question mark going into the season. Last year, it was Jazz Chisholm at the hot corner after the trade deadline. However, with Gleyber Torres leaving in free agency, he slid back over to his natural position of second base. Despite the offense performing well early on, the hot corner is still a major issue for the team. However, it doesn’t appear that they will be doing anything in the immediate future to fix that. Furthermore, the Yankees could elect to wait until the winter, and a former MLB executive believes they might make a massive splash. Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently predicted the Yankees would address their issues at third base in a significant manner this winter by signing Toronto Blue Jays slugger Bo Bichette to a massive contract. “Bo Bichette signs a five-year, $147 million deal to play third base for the Yankees.” If the 27-year-old is all right with switching positions, this could be a great addition on paper for New York. Even though Bichette had a down year in 2024, that appears to have been injury-related considering the success he’s had in the past. Furthermore, he is also off to a hot start to the season for the Blue Jays. Currently, the slugger has slashed .368/.455/.474 through five games. Since he will be just 28 years old at the start of the next campaign, the Yankees will be getting a player just hitting his prime. This season will dictate a lot about what next winter looks like for Bichette in terms of value and potential interest, but if the two-time All-Star bounces back from a poor year in 2024, he could be highly sought-after.
Mark Jackson is one of the most notable former NBA players. In addition to his playing career, he has also been a head coach (Golden State Warriors) and called the NBA Finals for ABC/ESPN. On Tuesday, Jackson is celebrating his 60th birthday. One person who sent him a message was NBA legend Reggie Miller. His Instagram post had over 2,000 likes in one hour. Miller wrote: "Happy Birthday to da Godfather @markjackson, enjoy your day Brotha Man and many more blessings..#MontanaOverMarino #CarewOverGywnn" Jackson was the 18th pick in the 1987 NBA Draft. He spent 17 seasons with the New York Knicks, Indiana Pacers, LA Clippers, Utah Jazz, Toronto Raptors, Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets. His career averages were 9.6 points, 3.8 rebounds, 8.0 assists and 1.2 steals per contest while shooting 44.7% from the field and 33.2% from the three-point range in 1,296 games. As for Miller, the Hall of Fame shooting guard spent his entire 18-year career with Indiana.
As the Detroit Pistons worked on forming a comeback against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night, the team lost its starting forward, Tobias Harris, during the second half. Lately, Harris has been dealing with an Achilles-related setback. It’s not serious enough to keep him off the floor for a while, but he’s missed some games recently. On Wednesday night, the Pistons ruled out Harris after 22 minutes of action. The veteran was having an efficient night from the field, making five of his eight shots for 10 points. He also had four rebounds and two assists. via @Pistons_PR: Tobias Harris (Right Achilles tendinopathy) will not return. Heading into Wednesday’s game, Harris was listed on the injury report as probable to play. When he was seen getting up shots during the Pistons’ morning shootaround, it was becoming clear he was on pace to make his return. Last week, Harris’ setback popped up ahead of the Pistons’ matchup against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Although Harris was left off of the injury report, the Pistons scratched him late. Detroit managed to pull off the upset win while shorthanded, defeating the Cavs 133-122. Harris was probable to play in the following game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Once again, he was scratched right before the two teams tipped off. That time around, the Timberwolves lost 123-104. The Pistons needed some additional help on Wednesday night, as they missed a handful of players, including Cade Cunningham, Ron Holland, Marcus Sasser, and Isaiah Stewart. Harris was a solid boost, but it appears he’s not back to one-hundred percent just yet. More Pistons on SI
While much of the pre-draft quarterback talk has been focused on teams atop the draft board, there are plenty of additional squad eyeing prospects at the position. Over the past few weeks, the Dolphins, Colts, Saints, and Rams have been among the teams connected to rookie quarterbacks. As mentioned, the Dolphins have been among the team’s scouting quarterbacks, with Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reporting that the team has met with, scouted or “evaluated” Texas’ Quinn Ewers, Louisville’s Tyler Shough, Alabama’s Jalen Milroe, Oregon’s Dillon Gabriel and Syracuse’s Kyle McCord. Jackson passes along a prediction from agent Drew Rosenhaus, who recently opined that the Dolphins will end up taking a QB in the draft. While the organization may simply be doing their due diligence, it makes sense for the Dolphins to consider the position in the draft. Tua Tagovailoa‘s injury and concussion injury has been well documented, and there will continue to be questions about the starter’s playing future. While Miami brought in Zach Wilson this offseason, the former draft bust likely wouldn’t be the team’s first choice to take over atop the depth chart. Sticking in the AFC, Colts GM Chris Ballard admitted that his team would take a QB if the situation presented itself. The team is rostering a former fourth-overall pick in Anthony Richardson, and they added former Giants starter Daniel Jones this offseason. Still, the organization has a hole on the depth chart after Sam Ehlinger left in free agency, and they could look for a QB3 via the draft. “If you think there’s somebody organizationally that you believe in, at any point, I think you pull the trigger,” Ballard said (via Joel A. Erickson of the Indianapolis Star). One of the teams that’s considered likeliest to select a QB is in the NFC. Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.football recently said there’s “something” to the team’s flirtation with many of the non-blue chip prospects. Underhill cites the team’s need for a long-term answer behind Derek Carr, and their pursuit could even lead to them selecting a QB in the first round. Among the players presumably under consideration is Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart, with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reporting that head coach Kellen Moore was in attendance for the school’s pro day. Finally, the Rams have been mentioned as a potential landing spot for rookie quarterbacks. Jourdan Rodrigue of The Athletic says the team is “open” to drafting a player at the position, although they “won’t reach for one.” As Rodrigue notes, both GM Les Snead and head coach Sean McVay have expressed interest in bringing in a young signal caller to play behind Matthew Stafford.
