Ex-Bellator Welterweight Champion Douglas Lima has signed a new deal with the PFL. Lima has not fought since beating Costello van Steenis last year, which ended his four-fight losing streak.
Douglas Lima won’t be joining his former foe Gegard Mousasi in free agency. The PFL’s acquisition of Bellator MMA hasn’t gone without some problems. The PFL purchased their rival promotion last year and are currently handling around 200 fighter contracts, plotting their next move.
The PFL became the second-largest MMA promotion in the world after acquiring Bellator. They had vowed to espouse the fighter-first approach but recently garnered criticism for their treatment of Gegard Mousasi, Kayla Harrison, and Douglas Lima.
There has been a lot of turbulence lately between the PFL and some of the old guard from Bellator. As we all know, late last year, the Professional Fighters League purchased Bellator and rolled out a new Champions Series for the promotion which has already had it’s first few shows this year.
