Steelers QB Target Dines with Mike Tomlin

The Pittsburgh Steelers, with five weeks until the 2025 NFL Draft, are still without a starting quarterback. As the draft approaches, it seems increasingly likely that the Steelers could take a quarterback with one of their early picks.

That could feasibly be Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, should his stock continue to fall. It may be Mississippi gunslinger Jaxson Dart, too. But the quarterback that Pittsburgh has expressed significant interest in is Alabama dual-threat Jalen Milroe.

According to Tom Pelissero, head coach Mike Tomlin was among the braintrust who dined with Milroe ahead of his Wednesday Pro Day.

“Former Alabama QB Jalen Milroe had dinner tonight in Tuscaloosa with #Steelers coach Mike Tomlin, GM Omar Khan and QBs coach Tom Arth ahead of his pro day, per source,” Pelissero posted.

“Pittsburgh, which continues to explore all options at the QB position, owns the No. 21 pick in April’s draft.”

If the Steelers are in on Milroe’s mobility, his 40-yard dash might have sustained that momentum. He ran an unofficial 4.37-second 40-yard dash, although other reports have been a little less bullish, reporting times around 4.40 seconds.

Milroe has his warts, as do most prospects – especially ones projected to be available at No. 21. He has enough arm talent to play at the next level, and his athletic profile is legitimately special, enough to instantly make him one of the five most-dynamic runners at the quarterback position.

Unlike Jayden Daniels or Lamar Jackson before him, there’s a lot of work to be done within structure. His accuracy is worryingly inconsistent, his processing is behind the curve, and he struggles to remain posed under pressure and when flushed out of the pocket, opting to run far more than throwing on the move.

With his blend of arm strength and athleticism, he’ll have answers to the test that he wouldn’t have with lesser tools. That lends itself to early success, but it’s clear whoever drafts him will need a strong coaching performance to turn him from easy-button dynamo to a full-fledged star.

Milroe remains more likely to go on Day 2 than in Round 1, but it only takes one team to fall in love. If anyone is going to, it could very well be the Steelers, who have both the need and the offensive talent to be optimistic about his development.

Kansas City Chiefs Linked to One of NFL Draft’s Top Offensive Tackles

After surrendering six sacks to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX and watching Patrick Mahomes take a career-high 36 sacks during the regular season, it’s no secret the Kansas City Chiefs must retool their offensive line. In ESPN’s latest mock draft, Mel Kiper Jr. sees the defending champs addressing that need in a big way. Why Josh Simmons Makes Sense for the Kansas City Chiefs in the NFL Draft Kiper projects the Chiefs to select Ohio State offensive tackle Josh Simmons with the No. 32 overall pick, praising both his upside and fit in Kansas City. “If Simmons didn’t injure his knee last October, we might not be having this conversation — because his projection might be closer to the top 10,” Kiper wrote for ESPN. “He has really good footwork and power, and he gave up just one sack over 19 career starts at left tackle. Heck, he hadn’t given up a single pressure in six games before the injury last season. That’s the kind of pass protection the Chiefs need.” The need is certainly there. Veteran guard Joe Thuney was traded to the Bears earlier this offseason, and while Kansas City has invested draft capital up front in recent years, protecting Mahomes remains the organization’s top priority. Simmons, who measured in at 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds, showed plenty of potential when healthy at Ohio State, showcasing the athleticism and technique to develop into a reliable NFL blindside protector. Before getting injured, Simmons didn’t allow a sack with just one quarterback hurry on his way to a 74.4 overall grade from Pro Football Focus. If he returns to form post-injury, Simmons could be a Day 1 contributor — and a long-term answer to help prop open Kansas City’s Super Bowl window.

Cubs Trade Pitch Lands Power Hitting Orioles First Baseman

After the Chicago Cubs couldn't close out a series sweep of the San Diego Padres, major questions surfaced surrounding the first baseman job. The Cubs have two first-baseman who've struggled to start the year, and this trade pitch looks to solve that issue. For this trade pitch, the Cubs make a deal with the Baltimore Orioles for first-baseman Ryan Mountcastle. The Cubs would likely not need to trade a highly ranked prospect, as Mountcastle is 28 years old and has just one year of arbitration left. Mountcastle is a free agent in 2027, and the Cubs would be adding him to an infield in need of stable first-baseman play. While Mountcastle hasn't been an All-Star in his career, his yearly numbers would be a great addition to the Cubs lineup. In the four full seasons as the Orioles' first-baseman, Mountcastle hasn't fallen below a .250 batting average. 2024 was a good year for Mountcastle, as he had 128 hits, a .271 batting average, and 30 doubles. Through 10 games in 2025, Mountcastle is hitting .324 with two doubles, and one RBI. He has no home runs, though his lack of home run production can be explained by the Orioles' new outfield dimensions. In his first season in the Major Leagues, Mountcastle hit 33 home runs. However, every year since then his numbers have gone down. But in a better environment, away from the Orioles' extended left-field wall, Mountcastle could be in for a major boost in his home run total. Mountcastle also provides good defense at first base. In 2024, he had his best defensive season, netting eight defensive runs saved, and had a .997 fielding percentage, which led the league. Adding a power-hitting first baseman, one who's also a great fielder is exactly what the Cubs need. Mountcastle would provide strong defense, and add another much-needed power hitter to the lineup. The Cubs' current first basemen aren't going to challenge Mountcastle for the job. Justin Turner is 40 years old, hitting just .200, and has struggled defensively with the Cubs in his short stint. The other first-baseman on the roster is Michael Busch. He's 27 years old but hasn't done enough to warrant keeping the first-baseman spot. Busch is hitting .235 with one home run and four runs batted in. While he's got significantly more upside than Turner, he's been inconsistent in his MLB career. Mountcastle would be the perfect mid-season acquisition for the Cubs. The Cubs need an upgrade offensively, and a stronger defensive presence at first. Mountcastle provides both, and likely at a reasonable cost.

Details Emerge From Nikola Jokic's Role In Michael Malone's Firing

The Denver Nuggets sent shockwaves throughout the sports world on Tuesday by firing Michael Malone. Malone was a perennial playoff contender and helped deliver the franchise its first title two years ago. The NBA Playoffs are also set to begin next week, and the Nuggets currently hold a slim lead in the No. 4 position in the Western conference. If they're able to keep that spot, they would have home-court advantage for at least the first round. Denver has been on a skid, losing seven of its last ten games. The team decided to part ways with Malone after this recent run, despite him leading them to a championship two years ago. New information around Malone's firing suggests that one player's frustration may have influenced the move. According to the Action Network's Matt Moore, Nikola Jokic was not consulted about the coaching and front office moves. Moore says that Jokic did not formally request for the general manager to be fired, but that his frustration with the tream this season was reaching a boiling point. Jokic is once again play an an elite, MVP level. The issue is that players like Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr. and others aren't helping in the ways the team needs or how Jokic needs. The Serbian center has been the NBA MVP three times, and can join truly claim the title of the best player in basketball. Installing a new coach and more of an offense centered around Jokic seems like the smart thing to do, but it's going to take time to get everything right. Malone went 471-327 during his ten season stint with the Denver Nuggets. He led them to the playoffs in six of the last 10 seasons, including each of the last six years. He helped the team reach the Western conference finals in the Florida bubble during the pandemic, where they lost to the eventual NBA champion Lakers. Jokic doesn't have a reputation for creating issues with his teammates or coaches. In this instance, it seems that the front office was anticipating their star having an issue with Malone returning for another year - no matter how he felt about him personally.

New York Mets Could Poach All-Star Slugger from Hated Rival

The New York Mets won’t be signing Vladimir Guerrero Jr. next offseason, as the first baseman just inked a 14-year contract extension with the Toronto Blue Jays. Now that Guerrero is off the table, who else can the Mets target to double down after snatching Juan Soto away from the New York Yankees over the winter? Of course, the Mets can pursue some help between now and the trade deadline, but fans already have their eyes set on next year’s free-agent market, where Steve Cohen may once again spend big bucks. Zachary Rotman of FanSided listed off a few names New York could potentially consider next winter, and he proposed that the Mets could try to steal Kyle Schwarber away from the Philadelphia Phillies. “With how dynamic and imposing Schwarber is at the plate, why shouldn’t the Mets want him?” Rotman wrote. “Sure, he has limitations in terms of hitting for average, playing the field, and running the bases, but the DH spot exists. The Mets can simply use Schwarber in that spot just about every day as the Phillies have for much of his tenure there and watch him hit dingers.” Schwarber signed with the Phillies ahead of the 2022 campaign and has been a menace for them at the dish, smashing over 40 home runs in each of his first two seasons before slashing .248/.366/.485 with 38 homers and 104 RBI across 692 plate appearances last year. The 32-year-old has long been regarded as one of the best power hitters in baseball, and while he is only a lifetime .230 hitter, he more than compensates for it with his ability to draw walks (he led the National League with 106 walks in 2024) and, of course, his penchant for leaving the ballpark. On top of that, Schwarber has hammered 21 long balls over 69 career playoff games, which ranks fourth all-time. He has also earned a pair of All-Star selections. Because the former Chicago Cubs star is older and doesn’t really play the field, he could probably be had on an affordable short-term deal, and the Mets would be wise to jump all over the opportunity.
