Former Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti is contemplating retirement at the age of just 31, with his chronic knee problems coming back to haunt him once again.

Former Lecce defender Samuel Umtiti was given a warm reception upon his return to the Stadio Via del Mare on Saturday afternoon, when his former club had to settle for a late draw against mid-table rivals Monza.  Umtiti spent the 2022-23 season on loan with Lecce from Barcelona, before terminating his contract at Camp Nou in the summer.

Former Barcelona defender considering retirement at 30 just 7 months after leaving club

Former Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti is reportedly considering retiring from the game after yet another knee problem forced him into surgery. Currently at Lille after moving on a free, Umtiti has been battling knee issues for nearly six years now, and has only played in fits and bursts since 2019.
